{"id":138,"date":"2007-05-27T07:58:43","date_gmt":"2007-05-27T15:58:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bobandeileen.com\/?p=138"},"modified":"2007-05-27T07:58:43","modified_gmt":"2007-05-27T15:58:43","slug":"pdxbot07-results","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bobandeileen.com\/?p=138","title":{"rendered":"PDXBot.07 Results"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bobandeileen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/05\/firstplace.jpg\" alt=\"PDXBot.07 First Place Adv Minisumo\" \/> I wasn&#8217;t able to get to Portland for this year&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/portlandrobotics.org\/index.php?id=2\">PDXBot<\/a> event as we had previous plans to be up to the Okanagan region that same weekend. But my friend <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davehylands.com\/\">Dave Hylands<\/a> offered to take a couple of my robots with him and run them for me. So I packed up <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bobandeileen.com\/gallery2\/main.php?g2_itemId=1513\">The Thin Man<\/a><\/em> and <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bobandeileen.com\/gallery2\/main.php?g2_itemId=1161\">AL the microsumo<\/a><\/em>, gave Dave a few instructions and advice about behaviors and such.<\/p>\n<p>I was very happy with the results: <em>The Thin Man<\/em> placed first in the Advanced Minisumo category. Dave&#8217;s cool minisumo <em>Stinger <\/em>placed second, and Daryl Sandberg&#8217;s <em>Slik <\/em>placed third.  <em>AL <\/em>placed third in the Microsumo category. I picked out two of the battles between two of Dave&#8217;s robots and <em>The Thin Man<\/em> for your viewing pleasure (each is 2.7 MB).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bobandeileen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/05\/ttmvsmaurader.mpg\" title=\"The Thin Man vs. Maurader\">The Thin Man vs. Maurader<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bobandeileen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/05\/ttmvsstinger.mpg\" title=\"The Thin Man vs. Stinger\">The Thin Man vs. Stinger<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Both videos are a lot of fun to watch and highlight that winning is sometimes just a bit of luck. In both videos it is very clear that <em>The Thin Man<\/em> is good at tossing an opponent out of the ring but detecting the opponent is a bit of hit-or-miss. I really think both matches could have easily turned out quite differently.
